DIY: athletic tee, sports luxe look

GAME FACE on! I'd like to thank Alexander Wang, Margiela and blogger The Haute Pursuit for making 'sports luxe' look so urban cool. Especially during these scorching summer months, mesh and/or perforated anything and deep arm holes seem like the only way to go. On and off the runway, you've probably seen sports bra under mesh shirts, leather jogging shorts with towering heels, sports tee/jerseys with skirts (as I've worn here) and even collaborations such as Stella McCartney x Adidas.  With the anything goes attitude in a sport luxe look, it makes it ok to wear work out gear as casual clothes but remember, within reason! As you've heard many times over, it takes effort to achieve that 'effortless' look. Same thing goes for sports luxe, you don't want to show up to a trendy dinner party looking like you are going to a yoga retreat,  well unless you do.  However, there's a thin line between treadmill vs runway.   The key is to find the happy medium. The same sentiment as to finding the key to LIFE!  Boom, fashion guide = life guide. hah. Anyways, read below on how I turned my youth sized Knick's tshirt into a more breathable tank.  LINSANITY 4evar.  :P

Materials:
  • sports tshirt (one that you are willing to part with if you mess up)
  • tank with deep arm holes to use as a pattern, like this one! - this tank is actually really dope.
  • sharp scissors
Directions:
  1. Lay tank with deep arm holes that will be the pattern over your tshirt
  2. Cut off the sleeves along the pattern of the tank.
  3. Try it on, trim more if you need, even out the jagged egdes, and cut neckline if it's too high.

It really is as easy as 1, 2, 3.  This was my favorite casual tshirt.  My beloved Jeremy Lin tshirt when Jeremy used to play for the Knicks and when he sparked Linsanity! So needless to say, I was a little bit nervous to cut it up.   On the flip side, all the more reason to make it more wearable (all day, errday).  Because it was kid's size, it was very snug, the neckline sometimes choked me, and it's made with very thick cotton material, so I couldn't wear it as much as I liked.  But after I cut it up (I will cut you),  it made it more BREATHABLE and comfy to wear. The subtle but mandatory detail is in the bra, a cute sports bra underneath or bandeau is perfect! Or a lightweight, breathable, lace triangle bralette like the one I'm wearing that I got at Urban Outffitters, here.  Get it girl.

Jay-Z:  "Sittin' courtside, Knicks & Nets give me high fives.  I be Spike'd out, I could trip a referee.  Tell by my attitude that I'm most definitely from ... New York, concrete jungles where dreams are made from." - Empire State of Mind

  2. I bought a bunch of these and wear them everyday. They fit well, are comfortable, and they do not develop any odor like natural fiber shirts when being sweated in routinely. i would recommend cross creek 6404

  3. I like these shirts, they're a medium weight. Bought one for around the house and several others for working out. I definitely recommend http://www.apparelnbags.com/athleticwear-athletic-t-shirts.htm.
